Divorce Dog Men Motherhood and Midlife KIm McLarin 9780692456903 Books
This memoir was very insightful, raw, and dynamic! I enjoyed learning more about Kim McLarin and her struggles. The struggle is REAL for all of us so I applaud those courageous souls who give us a glimpse of their joy and pain. Kim is one of my favorite authors. LOVED her book "Jump at the Sun." The only thing that makes me not give this book a 5 star rating is the several errors (grammar, misspellings, omissions, inconsistencies) throughout the book. However, no author is perfect and a few errors are tolerable...several becomes frustrating. Yet, I'm always captivated by the way this author walks in her truth and unleashes it on the pages of her books.Product details

Divorce Dog Men Motherhood and Midlife KIm McLarin 9780692456903 Books Reviews
Divorce Dog. It's not a metaphor for life after marriage, a pet story, or instructions for better living through motherhood. It's a truth-telling of the highest order. Kim McLarin speaks the truth. And writes it here. With courage and beauty. Unvarnished, seemingly conjured from the deep- she inhabits spaces we all possess but are reluctant to share-at least not without a modicum of spin.
If a memoir is a look into the particular that glimpses the universal, than this book is memoir maximus. Compelling (as in replete with searing pain, magnetic wit, and a rare brilliance throughout)- its the kind of book that reminds us of the messy and beautiful world that we inhabit. Not neat, always honest(her assessment of it, anyway). And pretty funny.
Oh,and her dog... seems very loyal and sweet.
I loved the truthful sharing in this book. Kim McLarin bares her soul and allows us to see the real human struggles she faces in a way that helps us connect and understand that we are all part of the same human family.
The wonderful thing about this memoir, aside from the writing itself (many well-crafted turns of phrase), the humor, and the honesty mentioned by other reviewers, is the way that it makes everyday things worth paying attention to, worth reading about. It is not the kind of memoir that sweeps you away from your own existence into a world all the author's own, providing a window into some separate reality that you can either wish were your own or be thankful that it is not. It is not propelled by drama so much as by inquiry. This inquiry, along with McLarin's unflinching honesty and eye for detail opens a space for readers to appreciate their own singularly beautiful, ordinary existence in a new way. Personally, that is what I want from a work of art. If you are this way too, you will probably love Divorce Dog.
Dear Reader,
This book is now available on in a new edition (and with a different cute dog on the cover.) I can't figure out how to link the pages, but if you go back to search and scroll down a bit you will find it. Thanks!
Kim McLarin
First off, the cover photo to Kim Mclarin's new book, Divorce Dog, is perfect. Working to keep her head above water (deep water?) but also an adept swimmer.
Second, Divorce Dog is a good read. It's funny and serious, sad and jubilant. Anyone who gets this book will be entertained and enlightened.
Divorce Dog is a poignant, funny and painfully honest depiction of a life and when I finished reading it, I realized it was a lot like my life. If you've ever doubted yourself, needed to laugh at yourself, or just needed to love yourself, you will find much to enjoy in this book. I highly recommend this as a must-read in 2013.
Loved this book! As an African-American woman in the same age group as the author, I can relate to her struggles, also as a person of colour living with depression I applaud her openness.
As I read (devoured) her work it took me on a wonderful and enlightening journey.
